Biography

Nigel Mansell is a British racing driver who won the Formula 1 World Championship in 1992 with Williams, recording a then-record nine wins in a single season. Famed for his aggressive, committed driving style, he became one of the most popular drivers Britain has ever produced.

After breaking through with Lotus and enjoying his most successful spells with Williams and Ferrari, Mansell finally claimed the title in dominant fashion in 1992. He then crossed the Atlantic and won the IndyCar championship in 1993 as a rookie — a unique double of reigning F1 and IndyCar champion.

His combative racing and never-say-die attitude earned him a devoted following and the affectionate Italian nickname "Il Leone", the Lion.
