Alpine pair retire after Colapinto-Gasly collision at Azerbaijan GP restart

Alpine’s hopes of a double points finish at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix ended when Franco Colapinto and Pierre Gasly were both knocked out in a collision. The incident happened at a restart on lap 36 in Baku and also led to wider criticism of Colapinto’s role in the crash.

According to reports, Colapinto locked his front tyres on the dusty, low-grip inside line and hit the side of Gasly’s car, causing a double DNF for Alpine. Flavio Briatore described it as a very poor move and said he was extremely disappointed by the outcome.

Alpine said it would consider what course of action should be taken after the crash. Elsewhere, world champion Lando Norris said Colapinto should be banned for causing the accident at the restart.
