Max Verstappen made his GT World Challenge Europe debut in the event and featured in the fight near the front before a mid-race drive-through penalty derailed his victory bid. The setback dropped the No. 3 Team Verstappen Mercedes down the order.
Verstappen then mounted a recovery drive to return to the top 10 by the finish. His result came in a dramatic return to GT racing during the gap between Formula 1 races.
