Olivieri clinches inaugural FREC title in Hockenheim finale
Italian driver Olivieri secured the inaugural FREC championship after the season-ending event at Hockenheimring. The title fight was settled in the finale after eight events and 19 races.
Olivieri, driving for the French team R-ace GP, was crowned the inaugural FREC champion at the end of the Hockenheimring finale. The Italian took the title after a season made up of eight events and 19 races.
American Sebastian Wheldon won the deciding race in Germany by finishing ahead of Olivieri, sealing his fourth victory of the season, more than any other driver. The championship battle had featured four drivers heading into the finale.
Briton Kean Nakamura-Berta, racing for Prema, was running second in Race 2 before being collected in a collision involving RPM's Jan Przyrowski and falling to seventh. Przyrowski, from Poland, had won Race 1, while Nakamura-Berta had moved to within seven points of Olivieri by finishing second to him in the opening race.
