Fernando Alonso’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix ended after he told the team over the radio, “I think we will box at the end of this lap. I’m sorry.” The message came before his retirement from the race.
The race was another setback for Aston Martin in what RaceFans described as a tough 2026 season. In Azerbaijan, neither Aston Martin car reached the chequered flag.
Taken together, the race saw Alonso effectively call the end of his own afternoon before Aston Martin completed a double retirement in Baku.
