Verstappen takes Singapore Sprint Qualifying top spot

Verstappen topped Sprint Qualifying for the 2026 FIA Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix at the Marina Bay Street Circuit with a lap of 1:31.156 in the final segment. He finished 0.120 seconds clear of Mercedes driver George Russell, with Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc third, 0.243 seconds off the pace.

Formula 1 quoted Verstappen as saying, "I did not expect this" after securing Sprint pole. Motorsport.com noted it was the first time in his Formula 1 career that Verstappen had ended a qualifying session fastest at Marina Bay, although it will not count as an official pole position.

The FIA said Verstappen’s result was subject to a stewards’ investigation into an alleged yellow flag infringement during SQ1. The session took place on Friday ahead of Saturday’s Sprint.
