Piastri pleased with third on Baku grid but cautious on race chances
Oscar Piastri qualified third for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, putting the McLaren on the second row after a difficult build-up to qualifying. He said he was happy with the result but suggested fighting further forward in the race could be unrealistic because of Mercedes' pace.
Oscar Piastri will start the Azerbaijan Grand Prix from third on the grid, placing him on the second row after McLaren improved its pace in qualifying at Baku. The Australian described the result as a positive one after a difficult lead-up to the main sessions.
Piastri was only 0.001s away from Charles Leclerc in Q3, but he indicated that the gap to Mercedes remained a concern. While satisfied with third place, he suggested that expecting to make up much more in the race may be unrealistic given Mercedes' speed.
