Russell wins in Baku and trims Antonelli’s championship lead

George Russell won the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku for Mercedes. It was his third Grand Prix victory of the season and his first win since Austria.

According to Motorsport.com, Russell’s Baku result was a pole-to-flag victory in which he led every lap and set the fastest lap, giving him the first grand slam of his career. The win was also described as his eighth grand prix victory.

Formula1.com reported that the result cut Russell’s deficit to team mate Kimi Antonelli in the Drivers’ Championship to 66 points. Russell was also quoted as saying there is less pressure on him than on Antonelli in the title fight.
