Gasly takes maiden F1 pole for Italian Grand Prix at Monza

Pierre Gasly secured pole position for the Italian Grand Prix at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza, marking the first pole of his Formula 1 career. The Alpine driver said he was delighted after topping Saturday’s qualifying session.

Gasly edged Mercedes driver George Russell by 0.060 seconds to take the top spot. The result stood out against a 2026 season that Motorsport.com said has largely been led by Mercedes team-mates Russell and championship leader Kimi Antonelli under the new technical regulations.

The Monza result also added to Gasly’s history at the circuit, where he previously took his only Formula 1 win six years earlier. After qualifying, he expressed his happiness at achieving a maiden pole at a track he said he likes.
