Drivers expect tyre management to shape first F1 race at Madring
Several drivers believe tyre wear could be a major factor in Formula 1's first race at the Madring. They also expect overtaking to be difficult, making strategy and pace management especially important in the Spanish Grand Prix.
Ahead of Formula 1's first race at the Madring, drivers have highlighted tyre degradation as a likely key issue for the Spanish Grand Prix. George Russell joked on Friday that the race could even become a six-stop event.
Others suggested the tyre challenge may force a very cautious approach. One view was that drivers could end up using "grandmother driving" on Sunday, while Charles Leclerc said the race is likely to be "all about tyre management".
Leclerc also predicted that passing will be difficult at the Madring. Taken together, those expectations point to a race where tyre preservation and strategy could have a decisive influence.
