Norris took the top spot by 0.011 seconds from Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli. Max Verstappen qualified third, while reports noted the result came as a surprise given that McLaren had not appeared to be the benchmark earlier in the weekend and Mercedes had led the practice sessions.
