Antonelli quickest in red-flagged second practice in Madrid
Kimi Antonelli led the way for Mercedes in second practice for the 2026 Spanish Grand Prix at the new Madring circuit. He finished ahead of Ferrari pair Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton in a session interrupted by a red flag after Arvid Lindblad crashed.
Antonelli set the fastest time in Friday’s second practice session for the 2026 Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix at Madrid’s new Madring circuit. The Mercedes driver, who arrived as championship leader, posted a 1:33.662 to edge Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc by 0.113s, with Lewis Hamilton a further 0.036s back in third.
His best lap came around the halfway point of the one-hour session and shortly before the running was stopped with a red flag. Multiple outlets reported that the interruption followed a crash for Arvid Lindblad.
Teams and drivers spent the session working through set-up changes on the new 5.4km, 22-turn Madrid track, which was widely described as difficult or challenging. Antonelli’s benchmark remained unbeaten, leaving Mercedes on top at the end of Friday practice.
